Guto Ajayu was born in 1990 in La Paz, Bolivia. Since 2017 he is based in Madrid.

Guto Ajayu's body of work revolves around the investigation of his identity as an individual and as part of society. The phrase “The watermark of oblivion” refers to the exploration of images from the remote past, as forgotten parts of our memory and DNA. The contemporary world has forgotten that we are the heritage, energy and identity of our ancestors. The watermark that we carry on our skin and our blood is indelible and inevitable. Around this concept, Ajayu creates a collection flooded with symbols typical of his culture, suggesting and creating apologies for a past that apparently no longer exists, but persecutes us relentlessly. The characters that dominate Ajayu's work in this exhibition are zoomorphic representations and ancient gods, in a challenging and dynamic attitude, accompanied by phrases and paint movements typical of the unpredictable vortex and the intuition of his brush. In the formulation of the composition, the common thread is the epic of the past and our origins, in order to call for reflection and not to forget our roots as humans. Georgina Santos da Silva

The modern world has forgotten that we are an inheritance, en

ergy and identity of our ancestors. The watermark we carry on our skin and our blood is indelible and inescapable.
