The amazing story of Princess de Broglie painting by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres

Princess de Broglie by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres in Prague period copy by Savinien Petit

It is an amazing story of a famous painting of The Princess De Broglie painted by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres. It was painted in 1851-53, showing Pauline de Broglie who was married to Albert de Broglie, 28th Prime Minister of France. Highly intelligent 28yo Pauline was also known for her beauty. Unfortunately her life was ended by tuberculosis when she turned 35.

During Ingrese´s life another artist - Savinien Petit (1815-78) being amazed with the artpiece he decided to make a period copy of it. 150 years later our gallery found this canvas as a forgotten piece in an antique store in Prague. We had the canvas partially restored and varnished. The original frame which comes from a famous framer L.Souty Fils & P.Lescudier in Paris was also restored to its original condition.

Altogether we now can see an amazing quality masterpiece from the second half of 19th century, having the same dimensions as the original painting (121 x 91 cm), signed in the top left corner "Savinien Petit D´Apres Ingres". The painting was also researched by Dr. Jiri Lauterkranc, a front expert on the old masters paintings. Having it in our Prague gallery all visitors can admire its beauty and quality!!
