Guto Ajayu

Guto Ajayu was born in 1990 in La Paz, Bolivia. Since 2017 he is based in Madrid.

Guto Ajay's work revolves around exploring his identity as an individual and as part of society. The phrase "Watermark of Forgetting" refers to the exploration of images from the distant past as forgotten parts of our memory and DNA. The contemporary world has forgotten that we are the heritage, energy and identity of our ancestors. The watermark we carry on our skin and our blood is indelible and inescapable. Around this concept, Ajayu creates a collection awash with symbols typical of his culture, designing and creating apologies for a past that no longer seems to exist but relentlessly haunts us. The figures that dominate Ajayu's work in this exhibition are zoomorphic representations and ancient gods in a challenging and dynamic stance, accompanied by phrases and movements of color typical of the unpredictable swirl and intuition of his brush. In the formulation of the piece, the common thread is the epic of the past and our origins, to invite reflection and not to forget our human roots. (text: Georgina Santos da Silva)

The Watermark Of Oblivion exhibition will take place in June 2023. Unsold paintings will continue to be displayed at the gallery after the exhibition.
