A fundamental preoccupation with painting is one of the hallmarks of Mark Nenutil's artistic work. Perhaps it is precisely because he has no systematic training in painting that his artistic expression is unsought, non-speculative and directively honest. He has been painting since his youth. He also went through a period of street art, and occasionally creates objects, but the painted image clearly dominates his work. He works in cycles, in which he changes themes and varies his expression, experimenting with technique.

He does not want to be a slave to a once found and proven style, but the tendency to attack the viewer directly remains typical of his work. Although he often takes inspiration from old photographs from the 1940s and 1950s and has recently focused on "innocent children's games", he reworks these sources so that, through an authorial transformation of their visuality, he can gloss over or comment on the problems of the contemporary world - from the global ecological crisis (melting glaciers) to the violence that seeps into the present not only through history, but also through mass media and social networks, changing our own individually coloured perceptions.
