Pavel Vasicek
Pavel Vašíček is one of the most prominent representatives of the young generation of Czech realistic painters. From the outset, he employs a wide range of expressive techniques in his work, encompassing hyperrealistic portraits, expressions of emotion, and even the free gestures of gestural abstraction. The artist's profound understanding of the significance of various developmental stages in European art, such as baroque, mannerism, and expressionism, forms an important and influential part of the overall concept in some of his works. These works draw attention to the values and ideas of pluralism.
Vašíček is primarily recognized for his monumental, realistic-expressive figurative compositions. His subjects revolve around pressing issues and the importance of preserving individuality in today's mass media society. He seeks a form of intellectualized primitivism, a provocative fusion of intellect and opposition to exaggerated aestheticism. Emphasizing content and intellectual depth, he does not adhere to contemporary artistic conventions. Simultaneously, he employs a certain irony towards these conventions by highlighting not only figuration but also exceptionally skillful and polished demonstrations of figurative elements themselves.
