Mariela tells us that sculpture is not only a form, but also the language the artist has chosen to communicate and the result of previous internalization work on the message it conveys. Sculpture is a discipline that requires patience, many hours of work and love. Love for the idea, the work, the message and the unknown that will one day be discovered. This is essential to the success of the work. Months can pass between the creation of the drawing and the creation of the work. Carving is a slow but sure process. All those hours of thinking, maturing, working and giving love make me realize the value of things, she confides.
Her work is figurative but not realistic, Mariela Garibay observes the world around her and rewrites it with great tenderness through figures with childlike curves. Mariela Garibay's sculpture is positive and generous, immortalizing a moment of happiness captured by the artist, a moment of peace, a good memory, a smile, a surprise, a simple and sincere joy.
