Louise Thuilliez

Louise Thuilliez (1831 - 1917) - "Bather in park" - oil on canvas - 68 x 49 cm / 93 x 75 cm

This wonderful painting features young girls bathing in a park. The author wanted to portray all the original beauty of beautiful nature, especially through her own rich painting. The presence of these bathing girls enlivens the theme at the same time the majesty of the place is indicated. The whole is bathed in very beautiful light and beautiful contrasts, which the author controls and loves.

LT She studied with her father Pierre Thuilliez and then with Cornu. Awarded in 1847, from her first participation in the Salon, she continued to participate until 1877. Her works were signed under her maiden name until 1869 and then under her married name. Her travels led her to discover Algeria around the 1850s. From this discovery she developed a distinct taste for Orientalist painting and offered animated landscapes delicately rendered in shimmering colors, bathed in generous light with perfect rendering. After her marriage, she most often stayed at her house in Cherbourg, which she had owned since 1847, and abandoned the Orientalist theme, sending only landscapes from her region to the salons.
