Adéla Lustigová

Adéla Lustigová was born in 1989 in Krnov (CZ). Today she lives and works in both Prague and London. The large-scale paintings of her idiosyncratic landscapes reflect a deeply personal experience from both real and imaginary places. The enigmatic images of abandoned halls, frozen forests and wild wolves, capture a deeply unsettling vision of the landscape we live in. Lustigová lets the painting float, just like our memories which are constantly changing and receding. The canvases are covered with the agglomeration of stains that dissolve and with the layers of paint washed out at some places and repainted again in others. All to evoke the sense of fading and dramatic disintegration. The paintings are inspired by the abandoned edges of the cities and the organic world of nature, entering into the regularity of architecture. Lustigová is capturing the sense of unease between the wild animal and the industrial environment, as well as the moments when those worlds meet and open to each other. The images of the dog silhouettes and falling rain evoke an atmosphere of intense stillness. In the vast spaces of empty stadiums, swimming pools and water reservoirs, we hear a piercing echo. AL sees her work as a constant process of searching and compulsion to capture a clear feeling in all its ambiguity.
